Hairspray the musical opened at the Starcity,Sydney on the 24th of June,the show will be showing until the end of August and then I believe it is off to Melbourne. There has been Tv media ads on television before the show started that I recall on the local tv such as channel 7,9 or 10(can`t recall which channel exactly).I remember the add as I love anything to do with entertainment! Last week I was in the city and there was flyers(as seen in the clip) all up &down George st which looked fabulous but did not provide me with much info except for the place where the show would be running which is Sydney`s Star City Lyrical Theatre. Tourism NSW in partnership with Showbiz,Mantra Hotels&CountryLink aswell as the producers of Hairspray are trying to promote travel within Australia to get people to visit Sydney so I believe they have given them cheaper rates for all this advertising as they believed the show is an incentive for people to come to Sydney. `HAIRSPRAY the latest drawcard for Sydney`(article in tourismNSW)is where i read the above info. The campaign is using mass communication to attract people from all over Australia. There are stay and see packages available through countrylink and other private providers when I googled the show. The show has it`s own Australian website which is sponsored by `TAFT` (hairproducts) hairspray ;) as internet marketing. It is a great colourful website so do go and check it out :) The Website has a newsletter you can subscribe to,there is an online shop,latest hairspray news,there are photos of the cast,downloads,you can purchase your tickets and you can also win a prize which is an incentive for some people and see australian celebrities that have attended(used to promote)the show. Social media marketing is also used to promote the show on Facebook,Twitter,Msn,Yahoo, You can buy tickets from many local online ticket sales providers such as showbiz&ticketmaster. |
There has been print adverstising in Local newspapers such as the Sydney Morning Herald and Canberra Times Relax, Dubbo Daily Liberal and Northern Daily Leader. There are buses around Sydney with advertisements on the side of the bus. Has anyone else seen more advertising?? |
In the United States `HAIRSPRAY` the musical was a great success as the story is set in America,John Travolta (celebrity) was used to promote this musical which would have been a big hit as i don`t know anyone who does not like John Travolta as he is a bit of an icon.
